Today was a great beach day. Hot, sunny, with just a hint of breeze. I packed up the whole house and the kids and headed to the beach to meet a friend. We have been meeting Kristin, and her son Nick the past few weeks. Chandler met Nick through some of our homeschooling activities a few years ago, and they have become fast friends. Today Chandler and Nick went right into the water, and barely came out again the rest of the day. I could hardly get Chandler out of the water long enough to eat lunch. So you know he is having fun if he is too busy to eat! They were boogie-boarding, body-surfing, and just plain ol'fashioned swimming. Max loves the water and has no fear of it. He will walk right in, get knocked down by the water and just keeps on going. Cooper has been scared of the water this summer, just barely getting in enough to wet his feet, and then only if he has a death-grip on your hand. But today, Kristen was able to help him overcome that fear and by the end of the day, he was out in the deep, jumping the waves with the big boys (with Kristen or me holding him, of course). He said "That is AWESOME!" The best part of the day for me: Max fell asleep, Kristen took Cooper out in the water with the big boys, and I was sitting up on the beach with not a soul to talk to for about 20 whole minutes. WOW!! I thought maybe I should have a some long genius thought strand, but then naahhh, just zoned out for a while.
When we got home, we decided to jump in the community pool to wash the sand off. Probably not the best thing for the pool filter, but, hey, better than on my floors. Spent an hour or so in the pool. Everyone was tired and ready for dinner by then.
At the end of the day it all pays off: Boys are sound asleep by 8:30 p.m.!
