The last two weeks...or the first half of September...

Hmm, looks like I forgot to blog about a week.  I think it was in the back of my mind, but it just never got to the front.

Let me see if I can remember what happened.

Max studied the letter A and L, which was again a review for him.  He also learned about apples, and we tried apples in a different ways, and read several books about Johnny Appleseed and apples.  We also studied leaves, and did a few leaf art projects.

Cooper learned about space in science with My Father's World curriculum.  We learned about gravity, and had a few experiments that require him to stand up tall on the table and drop things to the ground.  He liked doing that.  He also learned about American Indians.  We learned about Pocahontas, and Captain Smith.  The read-aloud that we have been working on is Squanto.   I think Cooper is enjoying learning about Indians.  You can always tell when he likes a book as he will actually sit and listen to it, and want to see any pictures.  If he's not interested, he ends up finding something to do with his hands and then tends to zone out on the listening.

Chandler is doing well on his schoolwork.  Algebra is finally starting to click for him after struggling for a few weeks.  He was almost making me doubt that he was ready for it, as the first couple of weeks were a bit rough.  He had a hard time comprehending that subtracting a number is the same as adding a negative, ie 6x-4 is the same as 6x + (-4).    We worked on this for about a week, before it finally clicked.  I think he was just trying to make it more difficult than it needed to be.  But for about the last two weeks, he has not gotten a single problem incorrect, and seems to be more comfortable with it.   He also received a 100% on a 100 question History final on American History (Settlers to 1850).

Cooper and Max started back up in Karate.  They do the a Wednesday morning class with a Homeschool group, using the same Karate Academy that they normally go to.   Right now, until Chandler's football schedule is over, this is the only day they can attend.

Cooper started Awanas, and tried it for two weeks.  He kept complaining that he didn't like it and after I watched closely the second night, I wasn't impressed either.  Awana isn't something he HAS to do, but rather just something I thought he would enjoy.  But since he doesn't enjoy it, he is not going to continue and frankly, Wednesday night is going to be one of the few nights we have absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to be, and can sit and actually have dinner without having to worry about rushing off to somewhere.

Chandler continues with football.  His team is 0-2, so he's not too happy about that.  The fall weather here has been beautiful, perfect for football.

Labor Day weekend we went to the Apple Festival in Hendersonville.  Chandler's team rode on a float in the parade, so the rest of us watched from the sidelines.  Chandler wasn't too impressed with being part of the parade, "All I did was sit there and wave at people I don't even know!".

This weekend we are actually in Jacksonville.  Chandler and Chris received tickets from Grandma for the Jaguars-Broncos game.  We've had a fun weekend with Grandma, and even stopped at the beach for a couple of hours.  Broncos ended up losing while Chandler and Chris melted in the stadium.  We are definately not missing this heat!

Chandler ready to go to the Broncos-Jaguars Game.

Chandler is the center in purple, the one holding the ball in this picture.

Cooper making art with crayon shavings.

                                               Melting the crayon shavings.

The final result:  A suncatcher with his name!

Cooper and Max watching a video about Pocahontas.

Cooper and Max at karate at the Homeschool Co-op.

Cooper and Max at the toy store...they are in love with Playmobile sets,
so we went to actually look at them in real life (instead of just in the catalog).

Max riding one of the toys they have outside for people to try out.

Cooper doing the same.

Chandler's science experiment for Chemistry.  The yeast is combining with the carbon in the sugar,
which creates carbon dioxide....

...and then the CO2 inflates the balloon.
