First Week

Max's first day of........I guess you could call it Preschool if you need a label.

Cooper's first day of 2nd grade.

Chandler's first day of 7th grade.

We finished up our first week of the new school year. Although technically it wasn't alot different than what we have been doing all summer, since we do school work pretty much all year long. We started a few new curriculums and will be starting a few more each week until we have a full load by September.

It was a quiet week and we pretty much stayed around home except for Chandler's football practice in the evenings. Chandler was invited to spend the night at his friend's house across the street on Monday night. I didn't really want to say yes, because we were just starting our new schedule and I knew that meant he would not be on his game Tuesday morning. But since I know summer is almost over for all of the children in the neighborhood, I agreed as long as they did not stay up too late. They must have went to bed at a decent hour as Chandler was pretty good on Tuesday..didn't act too tired.

Friday the boys and I went on a hike. We decided that we would start participating in this program, http://www.kidsinparks.com/. Basically it is to promote getting children outside. They have nature-oriented scavenger hunts on some of the trails in the area. Once you complete the hunt you log your activity on their website and the children earn free prizes. So we picked a trail that started at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center. We ended up hiking about a mile, and the boys were eagerly looking for the things on their list. They looked for poison ivy, an insect, bird, lichen (moss) on a tree, mushroom, spider web, and a few other things. Not sure what the prize is, that will come in the mail. On the way home, since we were hot and sweaty, we decided to stop at this little park that is next to the river. It is actually an intersection of where a little creek meets the French Broad River. We've driven by and seen people swimming, but never stopped. So today we were stopping "just to put our feet in"....I should have known that would end in the boys pretty much being soaked. It was pretty shallow, about up to Max's knees, but they all ended up wet and dirty by the end but they had fun.

And that was our first week!
