Beginning of the New Year....

Well, January has come and gone. We survived Christmas and are ready to see what 2009 has in store for us.
Our homeschool co-op has started back up on Friday mornings. Chandler is taking P.E. and Chess, Cooper is taking Show-n-Tell, and Godly Animals or something (does art-n-crafts related to animals and the bible), and Max hangs out unwillingly in the preschool room. It is co-op, which means everyone has to help with something. I help by assisting in the Art class and planning some field trips.
Chandler's Flag Football season started, and he is loving it. Flag Football is a pretty relaxed sport, as far as the schedule goes. His team practices once a week, and then practices for an hour before the games on Saturday, and then the one hour game. Chandler has been playing quarterback and some other positions (I couldn't tell you the name of those positions, I just know he runs around the field chasing the dude carrying the ball). His team is 0-3 as now, so cross your fingers for Chandler they win a game before the season is over!

Chandler's newest collection craze is Football cards, specifically rookie cards. I roll my eyes, as Chandler tends to go through collection phases, if his closet full of Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Baseball and now Football cards is anything to go judge by. He was excited to find out that a local card shop gives store credit for good report cards. So he took his report card and was given $10 in store credit ($2 for each A), and was able to buy cards. Now add to that probably $75 of his own money he has spent in the last three months on them, and he has quite a pile growing.
Cooper started Karate. He goes 2-3 times a week, depending on our schedule. He really seems to enjoy it and we don't hear any of the complaining that we used to hear when he played baseball or soccer. We have never been a Karate family, so we don't know much about it, so we are learning as we go about all of the different colored belts, lingo, etc. He starts out as a white belt, and his next step is a yellow belt. I "think" he might get Yellow tips first though, something about on his way to a yellow belt. I was worried the first couple of weeks that he wasn't enjoying it, as he always looks so serious in class. So finally, I asked him what his favorite part is, and he replied "All of it.". So then it dawned on me why he looks so serious: He was focusing and concentrating!!! Wasn't use to that, so didn't recognize it right away! He does look super-cute in his karate uniform though!

Cooper is eagerly awaiting his 6th birthday. He is planning on having a sleepover, his first! I haven't 100% agreed to that yet, it just sounds exhausting. Chandler has already said he is going to Grandma's house that night, no way is he hanging out with a bunch of 6 year olds! Stay tuned for that!

Max is still Max. He is pretty much potty trained. He just decided around Christmas that he would let us know he needed to go. At this point, he is about 90%, with just the rare accident when he is just too busy to worry about going to the bathroom, and no nighttime accidents at all. Here's the thing, for some reason, his code word to let us know he needs to go to the bathroom is "My privates hurt.".....okay, I don't know why he says that, I am pretty sure they DON'T actually hurt. I am thinking the full bladder pressure, thing is what he is talking about, but nevertheless, that is what he tells you when he needs to go potty. Weird, I know. But I didn't realize how weird until the first Friday we went to co-op. Max stays in the preschool room for 2 hours each Friday morning. So I wanted to let the moms in there know that Max was not wearing diapers anymore, in case he needed to use the bathroom. I realized at that point, when I was telling the mom "Okay, so if he needs to use the bathroom, he usuallys say "My privates hurt"........so yeah, that was weird to have to verbalize that to someone outside of the family. :)

Max loves playing with all of the big boys. One Saturday afternoon, we pulled into the driveway, and a few of the neighborhood boys, Cooper's buddies, ran up to the car to see if Cooper could play. Cooper wasn't with us, as he was spending the night with Grandma that night. Max wanted to play with them "I play, I play!", and they agreed to let him play. So here's little Max playing guns and running around the yards with these 5 and 6 year olds. I stayed in his general area to keep an eye on him, but he had lots of fun. Cooper wasn't too happy the next day to find out Max had played with his friends.
Well, February is almost here. We have some fun plans for Cooper's birthday, we will release balloons up to Tyler, and spring is right around the corner, hooray!
