Happy New Year to everyone!!
Our new year promises to be as busy, fun and exciting as ever.
Right before the year started we brought a new member of the household home. A friend of a friend offered us a six-week old female beagle. We jumped on the offer. The only kicker was we had to drive to Georgia to get her, so it was about a 2 hour trip each way (the Georgia border is only about 30 miles north of Jacksonville for those of ya who didn't know). We left Chandler and Cooper with Grandma, and threw Max into the backseat and hit the road. That was a interesting road trip. We were certainly out in the most rural, "backwoods" areas of Georgia. A bit scary. The boys were very happy when we arrived home with the new puppy. We decided to name her Mandi. Being the only girl "baby" in the house, we have "pinked" her out. Pink collar, pink food bowl, pink cushion in her crate. Mandi has settled in and is quite quickly becoming the princess of her castle. She is potty-training well and learning a few commands. The boys are eager to take her to the local dog park to run, but we are waiting until she is a bit older. Right now she is very timid around other dogs and we don't want her to get bowled over by bigger dogs.
Life started to get back on track after the holidays. All of our normal activities started back up. Cooper goes to choir on Wednesdays. Homeschool co-op is every Friday, along with various field trips and other activities in between.
We took the boys to the circus. We actually got tickets via our homeschool group for the school performance. Although it was the normal full performance, it was in the morning of a weekday, tickets were very economical and you were allowed to bring in your own snacks. Overall, a great deal. The boys enjoyed the show. But Cooper is at that age where he is very souvenir-oriented, so he can't relax until he buys something. Max quickly decided climbing the very steep stairs in the arena was MUCH more interesting than some strange-looking people doing odd things. Chandler really enjoyed the motorcycle part of the show, where they put more and more men on motorcycles in this tiny metal ball and they drive around like crazy. Chandler was amazed at that.
Max has mastered the word "No". He shakes his head too when he says it. He can say it soft and sweet, just so ya know he isn't interested, or he can say it loud and demanding, just so ya know he means business. If he doesn't approve of something, he call also wagg his finger while he gives you a Parental "no, no". Max is just too smart. Ya have to see him in action to appreciate it. Word can't describe how quick he is to pick up on things, and master them as his own.
Baseball started back up and we signed Cooper up for his first year of Tee-Ball. Although he has not shown the same interest that Chandler did at that age (or even the interest that Max has already) we still want to give him exposure to the sport. Chris has been working with Cooper so he is familiar with hitting off of a tee, using a glove, etc. Both Chandler and Cooper had try-outs the same day. They are not really TRY-OUTS, as everyone makes a team. It is more of a way to make sure the teams are balanced. It was rainy, dreary, cold day to be out on a baseball field at 9a.m., but we made it. I left Chris with Chandler on the big-boy fields as this is old news for Chandler. I took Cooper over to his Tee-Ball fields and we lined up with the other 4-5 year olds and parents. Cooper waited his turn patiently and did about as well as most of the other children. He was happy.
At this point, both boys have found out who their teams are, and when practices will be. Chandler's team will practice on Mon/Fri, whereas Cooper will practice on Wed/Thurs. Games will be another story. SO, if you never hear from us in the next few months, it is probably because we are living at the baseball field.
That same afternoon as try-outs, Chandler and Cooper went to a birthday party. The rain had cleared up, but it was still WAY too cold for me to be out of the house! It was technically for a friend of Chandler's but Cooper considered the boy HIS friend too, so I called and asked if it was okay for Cooper to come along. They had a blast as one of the activities was a shaving cream fight. Each boy put on trash bag to somewhat protect clothes, was given a can of shaving cream and ran into a small wooden area to go at it. It was so funny to see my little Cooper just running and keeping up with the big boys. He so thinks he is one of them. I was very nervous to let him run out there, and was biting my lips the whole time. Both Chandler and Cooper loved it, and talked about it for days. They were a complete mess afterwards, but with three boys, that is a normal part of life for us.
We took Chandler to the Cummer Musuem in Jacksonville to a exhibit about Romans, and more specifically artifacts from a village near Pompeii. We left Cooper and Max with Grandma as we knew better then even attempt to take them. Plus it is good for Chandler to have some time alone with us. The three of us enjoyed the exhibit. Chandler had studied Rome last year in History, so the artifacts really brought it alive for him.
I AM THE RUMMIKUB QUEEN!! Just to share, we have a regular game night with Chandler. We will put Cooper to bed at his normal time (7:30p) or he will spend the night with Grandma, Max is usually up as he is a night-owl (much to our dismay!!!!!) but watching his best friend Dora on TV, and we let Chandler stay up and we will do Board Game night. We take turns picking the games (if Chandler picks Monopoly one more time, I am going to secretly BURN IT!!). But I do want to let everyone know that I rock at Rummikub. You will have to contact me to see the scorecard, but let's just say we keep an ongoing score, running now for about the past 3 months, and Chandler and Chris are neck-n-neck, FAR FAR past me.
